New Year Resolutions

"Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man."  ~Benjamin Franklin

Its that time of the year again when most of us try to turn into a new leaf in the coming new year. We make note of all that we intended to do in the year that went by and then make up a list which we call the New Year Resolution.

Have you made yours yet? I have been thinking about this for the past few days now. As I was making a mental note of the things that I would like to include in my list I began to realize one thing, sadly but truly they were the same things that make my New Year Resolution every year. I don't know if its the same for you but for me it always includes some things that I  mean to do but never get down to doing it.

On examining this deeper I found that the things that I always wanted to do were the basic things in life that we leave behind because we feel we can do it at another time. This seemingly unimportant things are the ones that seem to top our list when we write down our resolutions each year. If they are so unimportant then how come they make up the resolutions? Well because they are what would enrich our lives to a greater extend but some how we neglect them because we feel we still have plenty of time to do them some other time or day.We feel if we do these things on a daily basis then we might not get time to do the things we deem important at that moment.

If you have made your New Year Resolutions then take a deeper look at them and see if they fall into the following categories:
1. Physical ~ Exercise more, lose weight, eat healthy....and so on
2. Heath ~  Quit smoking, drink 8 glasses of water, consult a doctor.....
3. Spiritual ~ Prayer, Meditation, journal or diary entries...
4. Social ~ Talk to your friends, spend time with family....
5. Goals ~ Lose weight, Achieve targets, set aside money for future...
6. Family ~ Spend time with husband, children.....loved ones....
7. Hobbies ~ Read, write, blog, paint, cook....more

Some of them fall into multiple categories as you can see....like weight loss is health related, to achieve it is Goal oriented and it involves some Physical activity....Spending time with loved ones can be family, social, and to some extend spiritual don't you think?!!! So something that can fulfill us in so many different spears is surely worth our attention and its the most important area in our life cause these make up our lives.

We are all living in a busy world but we all seem to be living without any essence or substance....then we are all just merely existing and not living. So this New Year let us just make one resolution "lets all cease to exist and start to live our lives to the fullest" by adding lives to our days and not just days to our lives.
Happy New Year!!!

  1. It is always good to have a target which makes us happy to achieve. But we should follow the target with optimism, and don't get upset when our gain is less. You concluded your words by a beautiful concept about life which expresses the value of living.
